Jinlee Park: Healing Landscape
October 25 – October 31, 2019
Galerie Pici Seoul, Seoul, Korea

Park’s work is simple in subject matter and minimal in her execution. She takes cues from nature motifs: leaves, flowers, and trees. She carefully uses white space to add a touch of solemnity to her work, and provides meaning behind these still life objects.

JinLee’s solo presentation is part of our local artist outreach program. JinLee works and lives in Incheon, Korea.

“When I make strokes with my brush and apply stone powder on the canvas, I feel that I sprinkle the lawn and sweep out the yard. This is my own way to open a new universe, which purifies my tired mind.”
- Jinlee Park

Park’s ink drawing is light and delicate with an ease of slight contrast. Her use of white space and lines are still in play here, leaving the drawing to appear unfinished. There are small pockets of depth that are hidden behind several leaves. This is her escape into a new, unearthed world.

"I look forward to seeing the benefits of appreciating paintings as well as the hopes and frustrations of the characters in the paintings. After all, the comfort is in the people." - JangHyuk Kim

Referencing Michelangelo Buonarroti’s sculpture Pietà of 1498-99, Kim’s interpretation of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus Christ on her lap represents for Kim, a boundless search for compassionate communication through his paintings. Understanding the public and the desires of the viewer is a large part of Kim’s practice. He takes on colors he associates with his subjects and uses them to emphasize the energy field that surrounds their history along with their current existence.
