2021 KIAF SEOUL
Seoul | Oct 13 – Oct 17, 2021
Kiaf Seoul OVR | Oct 15 – Oct 23, 2021
KIAF Seoul booth will present mixed works from new and existing artists who form a core component of the gallery’s exhibition program in 2021, including Shinduk Kang, Heeyeon Kim, Jungmi Kim, Geunhwa Lee, and Hye Yeong Lim.
In this new Tulipa series (much bigger in size), the flower imagery is more focused in shape and mass with the color blocks contrasted against the line drawing of the vase and water lines. Her use of color here is not naturally occurring in tulips, so these are largely made up in her abstraction process.
Shinduk Kang’s recent metal works are characterized by sleek and blazing sensations. Roundish shapes of shining colored, Open Air, aluminum sculptures by Shinduk Kang will be on view alongside her kaleidoscopic lenticular works on the wall.
Focusing on unconscious expression using paint drips, Jungmi Kim attempts to construct a feast through energetic colors and layers of fantasy. Allowing the paint to drip on its own, it creates a marble-like swirling effect that ebbs and flows.
Heeyeon Kim presents her Time Play series; botanical images are recreated in these works and act as a metaphor for creation and extinction through the blooming and wilting stages.
GeunHwa Lee paints the inner landscape of the sea. Presented at the booth, in her most recent works, traversing the ocean floor, Lee takes her signature painted paper to raise the texture off the background to add dimension to the canvas.
Hye Yeong Lim
Hye Yeong Lim, strongly associated with figurative painting, further develops her style using her signature woman torso with distinctive eyes and dramatic lips without a nose, in the center of her fantasy, colorful background.
