SunHwa Lee: Love is Feeling, Feeling is Love
Galerie Pici Seoul
Artist SunHwa Lee believes that works of art should be felt rather than analyzed. Using the heart to guide one’s interpretation of art is central to Lee’s visual approach to her abstract shapes and colors. The white painted areas combined with the reds, yellows, blues, and greens, allow the viewer to focus on the combination of the elements, form, color, and texture, while relieving the viewer of any preconceived meaning to the work. The openness created by the white areas on each canvas are pockets the artist left available for the viewer to fill with their own feelings.

The artist feels to express, the critic feels to interpret, and the viewer feels for the feeling itself.
SunHwa Lee

Obscuring parts of the geometric pattern created by the colors and shapes of the canvas, Lee paints white over areas to make the uniform shapes more dynamic. With sporadically integrated layers of paint, Lee begins to invite the viewer into this open space to appreciate two sides of the work; the artist’s and the viewer’s own.
