Yiyang Oh: Existence Wave
Galerie Pici Seoul
Yiyang Oh’s (b. 1964, Naju, South Korea) practice focuses on meticulously prepared colored silicone strips that are placed onto his canvas. His material evolves from a liquid state to a solid state. The process of flattening makes random traces on the silicone when it solidifies, while on the surface of the canvas it creates nodes. Tightly layered, but with a slight space between each line. There is no particular focal point but the viewer is swept into a rhythmic movement and flow. This material construction creates a sense of light flickering on the surface that evokes a luminous purity and a close sense of visual reality, which we cannot see but feel.
